Interview with Gian Luca Salvucci – Creative Director for “Delsa”

— Delsa, a brand that represents an entirely female business story. Please tell us briefly how this company was born.

Delsa was established in 1969 by Maria Cristina Craglia, the founder. The unusual feature for the time was that there was a woman behind the growth of such a major business as ours. Maria Cristina Craglia had always had very clear ideas about her future – to create something unique for brides. The years she passed learning the art of dress-making in a cloistered convent and attending the “Secoli” Institute in Milan certainly helped her achieve her goal. Maria Cristina combined the love for beauty and for perfect workmanship with great creativity. This business run by women has now been passed down to her family, which combine the traditions of the founder with the requests of present-day brides.

— How important is it for you to make gowns in Italy?

Made in Italy feeds our soul and represents the engine pulling the company image. It is only by entrusting our work to expert hands that we can be sure of the product’s quality. Precious gowns, ranging from the most traditional styles to daring ones, or simple, essential dresses, always made with refined fabrics (starting from silk) are raised to true style perfection in the details. Embroidery, lace, pearls and other materials rich in light are small masterpieces that complete the sketch, expressed in every gown, with the creative confidence of great Made in Italy brands.
— The bridal dress market is undergoing a true revolution and competition is now global. How are you dealing with this change? With which tools? How much is the world of the web and of social media helping you?
With such global competition it became necessary to expand production accordingly, which involves requests from other cultures but that expresses the unmistakable taste for Made in Italy luxury. We will answer these requests in 2019 with the presentation of three bridal lines, Delsa Couture, Delsa Fashion and Perle, and the new occasion-wear brand, Delsa Boutique.

The world of the web and of social media, the various television celebrities who chose to wear Delsa, our participation in the most important trade shows in this sector are the main tools we use to reach brides-to-be all over the world.
